Wanted to post something for a long time. But I don't know what to post until now. Lately, I've experienced a lot of hurt in my campus life. People you think you trust and are friends just turned out the other way. After being sad and all for some time, I thought of one of the devotional materials. This is what I want to share with you guys (if this blog still has reader :P).

"Every human on the face of the earth has the ability to let someone down. Everyone is capable of breaking a heart. It's our nature. There is no one who can live up to another's expectations 100 percent of the time.

No one but Christ.

... We are not to put our hopes in people, but in Christ, who would never, ever let us down.

To some people, that's good news.

To others, it's like saying we can count on the tooth fairy. To them, Christ seems so far removed from the reality that they think reaching for him would be like reaching for thin air.

But they would be wrong.

You see, Jesus knows of our heartbreaks. His heart was broken when his disciples scattered to avoid arrest and one of his twelve closest friends betrayed him for thirty pieces of silver. His heart was broken when he heard that Peter, one of his most trusted confidants, had sworn he didn't even know him. His heart was broken when he hung on that cross between thieves and heard the soldiers mocking him and knew he had done nothing for which he could be executed. His heart was broken when the thief on the cross next to his cursed and heaped insults on him. At the same time, his broken heart must have reminded him why he was there. He had come to earth for the sins that caused all of those heartbreaks.

Because of Christ's suffering, he not only understands our suffering, but he has such an affinity with us that he can call us brothers and sisters. To me, that's wonderful news! That tells me that no matter who breaks my heart in this life, or who lets me down or deceives me or rejects me or betrays me ... I'll still have an anchor. Jesus understands, and he will never break my heart."

Yes! Some of you may say, "It's easy to say than do." I do agree it's easier to say. But if everyone says that and never put into practice, you will never experience the beauty of a healed wound until you die. I am learning, too. I've chosen to take the first step. What about you? Are you going to continue to let it hurt you until you can't stand up? Or are you going to trust in the Lord and find joy in Him? It's okay to cry about it. But after crying, what are you going to do about it? Keep on crying and let it tear you down? Or commit everything into God's hands and asking Him for help?

Yup, we had our 1st EY meeting of the year…and praise the Lord we had a great number of youth turned up..God’s providence is always great!! Amen.

Started off with the killer, police and citizen ice breaker game…kinda fun though..can kill someone and anyone by just pressing the hand. thanks Enli and Jia Wei for introducing the game!! GJ. So as consistent as we are, we will always punish those who lose in the game..Though it is a punishment, bt they are still enjoying it..That’s another good thing about EY.

Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Being the Light of the World!!Many at times we dare not bring out our light as Christian. We dare not tell people what we believe. We tend to blend into the world instead of making a difference.

It is time, people to shine forth your light and be an agent of change in the society. Let’s make an impact to the people out there, in our school, work place, family and friends. That when others see us, the see Christ in us.

Hence, this year we will be going out often to do social/community work and practise being the light of the world. Lets come together to make an impact to this society and bring change to the world!!

Wow, finally I am having little bit of free time over here after a crazy month of Dec. 2010 had come to pass and we are already in 2011..the old had gone and the new has come. If I were to share on the previous year, definitely he had shown me countless time how of a great and impossible God he is. I am just humbled by looking at what He had blessed and done for us.

I do give thanks to the Lord for blessing me with such a great and wonderful youths and youths advisor in Elim. In fact I do felt exhausted and feel like throwing in the towel at times, but the Lord never fail to give me the strength to continue. N everytime ,the Lord chose to use the Elim Youths to give me this strength to persevere and continue.

Elim Sports Camp, all of you came in to lead and help in whatever ways you can. Some of you are for the 1st time leading a group, 1st time acting, 1st time teaching and 1st time leading children singing but still you guys did it. The no.of helpers volunteered, the no. of parents turned up for finale…Nothing is Impossible!!

Youth Camp, as Katan commented, its not the speaker, its not the worship, its not the chit chat we had nor the games we had but it’s the God of the Impossible that made this camp possible. Through the Impossible God we had seen souls being saved in this camp. All glory to God.

As I had shared in FB, Able to be part of his perfect plan is infinitely more rewarding that what the world can ever offer me. I still believe that and will continue to believe so.

I am very sure this year will be a much rewarding and greater year for Elim Youths and even for Ipoh. Lets continue to shine forth for Him and strive for the impossible as our God is the God of the Impossible. EYERS, GO FOR THE IMPOSSIBLE!!!

Yup...its just a few more days before the YOUTH CAMP...hope everyone is excited about it...:)

So ya , just to do some last updates to all the campers going from Ipoh..yup IPOH MALI people..get ready to ROCK Rawang

Below are the details of camp:
From ? 17 Dec to 20 Dec
Camp site? MBS Kundang, Rawang
Leaving from Ipoh at? 9 am (Meet in church latest by 8.45am, if not you jalan kaki ya)
Meetting in? Elim Gospel Hall
Going Rawang by? Bus

Thing TO Bring
A) toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc)
B) towel
C) clothes that you don't mind getting dirty
D) swimming wear (if you intend to swim- there is a swimming pool at the campsite)
E) sneakers and slippers
F) stationary (writing items and notebook)
G) Small amount of pocket money
H) sleeping bag (optional)
I) bible (if you have one)
J) sporting gear like badminton or tennis racquets, basketball, etc
K) sun-block lotion

THERE ARE NO 'KEDAI RUNCITS' AT THE CAMPSITE. SUPPER WILL BE PROVIDED BUT FEEL FREE TO BRING UR OWN SNACKS. :D

Hi hi....

Time really flies and this Sat will be our last EY meeting of the year....

Since it will be our last meeting, we are going to have some makan makan and some fun time together.

Also we would like to take this chance to thanks those youths that had helped out in the Elim Sports Camp. Though the camp has not ended yet but still we have every reason to give thanks and celebrate.

Praise and Prayer + Ultimate Galah Panjang

I guess most of you guys had already finished your exams right? PMR guys definately did..

Well, praise God for that. Whether it is good results or bad results, we still give thanks and praise Him. I always believe that ,we don't have to find a reason or a good day or some miracles to happen in order to praise Him. By having the chance to write this posting and still living, it is already something which I am thankful for and worth praising Him for.

Yup, this Sat EY we will be having Praise and Prayer. For those who will be asking the question, what is that? Then, you definately have to come and experience yourself.

Our prophet Samuel will be leading us in a time of Praise and Worship together with his music team.

Thats not all, we will be playing a real exciting and challenging game called the 'ULTIMATE GALAH PANJANG'". Those who played before , will surely want more. Little preview below.

So, do join us for a great time of worship and praying together. Of course not forgetting our ULTIMATE game.

Thanks to our beloved bro Kevin Koon aka Kampar frisbee coach(don't know how true is this, we shall see this Sat) who managed to get the Kampar team consisting of KTAR and UTAR student to come all the way to Ipoh for this friendly match. Good job bro!
Not forgetting also the Cornerstone team will be joining us for this exciting match as well.

Jacket on…Dre!
I don’t get it. I am done. They can beat me up as they want. You know why you left with only one student? Cause you don’t know kungfu!!

If you watch this new movie ‘The Karate Kid 2010”, you will realised these dialog are taken from the movie. In one of the scene, Jackie Chan was actually promised to teach Dre kungfu. So Jackie kept asking him to put up his jacket on the “wood”, throw it on the floor, wear it and kept repeating the cycle.

Till one point, Dre was pissed off with this impractical routine practise which has nothing to do with kungfu(in his point of view). He wanted to give up till the extend, of he was willing to be beaten up than to continue these nonsense practise. Little that he realised that all that he was practising are all the kungfu moves that Jackie trying to teach him. The moment Jackie revealed it to him, he was so amazed and only then was able to understand the real reason why was he doing all these nonsense and impractical things.

That can really relate very much to our walk with God isn’t it? A lot of times we felt that the things God asked us to do/things happening around us doesn’t make sense at all. Why I can’t get ideal job and stuck here in this small company? Why do I have to go through all these sufferings? Why do I have to do all these donkey work and he gets all the credit? We give up and blame God for not caring and showing us the way. But the real fact is, we fail to see the big picture of what God has planned for us. We might not know the reason behind what we are doing now and we might feel like throwing in the towel but only God knows what’s best for us. All we have to do is just to follow his simple instruction and continue to have faith till the day He reveal to us His perfect plan.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose. Rom 8:28

Okay, so no one angkat tangan for the previous post. It's either no one reads this blog, or they skipped my post (*buat muka masam*) or no one is following the New Testament reading. Well, I hope you will take the effort to do so. Follow the NT reading list, I mean. I'm still doing it and this time around, I'm making sure I'll finish the NT by the end of this year. Janji.

Anyway, my stay is coming to an end in less than 2 weeks and I'm leaving for tanah maple syrup soon. Time flies, eh? 3 1/2 months down the road liao and I really want to thank yous for making my trip back such a wonderful one. Like seriously.

Edit: I wrote that 2 weeks ago and now, I'm leaving in like...10 hours.

It started with the EY caregroup, the time when Bertin and Steven were trying out each other's strength by holding hands. I knew some of you guys by face, like Ah Kai and Ah Qi and knew some slightly better, like Steven and Andrew. A bit janggal at times, but it was all cool. With time, we were soon better friends.

Now, 3 1/2 months on, with my Canto much better and me catching some of you guys' sense of humour, I'll leave with arms high and heart abandoned. I'm telling all of you (I mean, all) now that you have made my holidays rather awesome. God has been graceful and unassuming. Well, God being God. But yeah, thank yous for just being there.

And oh, I'm glad to be your camera...tho a lot of the times, I passed it you guys to take it for yourself :P Learning from Unc. William to pass it on!

Frisbee Game N Dinner

Sorry guys for this late announcement... We wont be having our usual EY meeting this Sat(14 Aug 2010) but we will be having something special on this Sat evening.

We will be having a friendly frisbee match with Corner Stone church and some of the guys from Kampar( thanks to our bro Kevin Koon for inviting them)... in YMCA at 5pm. Lets meet at church at 4.45pm and we will depart from there just like our usual BUG.

After the game we will go back to church for a buffet + BBQ dinner at 7.30pm in conjunction with the launching of the A-Men football team . Just a short intro, this A-Men team consist of a group of ex national football players coming together to form a team to play football and of course the ultimate goal, to spread the gospel through football.

So do come n join us...food is FOC, cool right?

BSGC Trip

Hello hello my fellow ey'erss,

This coming weekend we are going down south to visit our dear bro n sis in BSGC...What are we going to do there? Basically to have some fellowship with them, makan makan, jalan jalan, tengok wayang and definately you are going to enjoy it.

We will be going down on Sat. BSGC youths already planned all the activities for us on that day so we just join in and have fun. On Sun, we are still open for suggestions, no specific place or activities planned yet....anything fun, cheap, exciting, we will go for it. =)

Below are some details on the trip:

Date                   : 31 July(Sat) and 1st August(Sun)
Time                   : Meet in church at 9am (Sat)
                            Back on Sun around 8pm
Cost                   : Bring as much as you need(RM100-120 should be enough)..

Have you ever..

...mentioned your parents' contribution in your successes?

Recently, I have had opportunities to be praised by people I met. Random people I talked to said "I'm good at talking", "I know how to carry myself", "I'm rather open minded", "I'm smart" and those sweet nothings. Well, not exactly sweet nothings lah..they are more of like, sweet somethings.

So, I reacted politely by saying "Thank you". I didn't even try to feign humility by saying "Oh it's nothing much" or other similar phrases. Just "Thank you".

And after that, I thought I should tone down my confidence by forwarding some of those praises to the education that I get in MGS, or the teachers who taught me back in secondary school, or my education in Canada. Or my existing crowd of friends.

I just realized that I was very quick to thank everyone around me, except my parents.

Yes, the education I am getting is top-notched, my secondary schooling years were fun filled with friends who were quirky and interesting. Each of these formed the virtues I still hold in life. But hey, my parents play great parts as well. They thought me dignity and respect, humility and gentleness, patience and forgiveness. And many other lessons of life, to be cliche.

So my current goal is to mention my parents when people talk about my "goodness". Because they deserve their due respect.

This is somewhat a weird post. Do let me know your thoughts. :)

Its time for us to update our t-shirt designs...our last t-shirt design, the black and green lettering..was a few years back, and (BTW...where is my EY t-shirt???)..Anyway..we have the design down for the t-shirt but are kinda split for choice for the 'polo t'...Yupe...we are doing a polo-t as well...Back to the point of this post...we are uploading the pictures of the ts...what we require from you all are...well...vote on your preferred colour for the polo-t as well as indicate as to the size that you want, for us to do the booking. Alrightttt...Hong Kong strikes!

No no I'm not referring to my other half here okay. I'm talking about the group of Hongkies who are already here in our church!...and apologies, that was an insider's joke.

If I am not mistaken, there was a group of Hongkies from Soccer for Christ who went for an exposure trip to Ipoh last year and we hosted them for a week. I think the picture of Kim Chi Chun holding hands with he-who-shall-not-be-named was taken during that very event last year! This year, it's happening again. And NO, I'm not talking about the hand holding thingy lahh. I meant the former.

In order to be friendly to our guests,we'll be having a potbless this coming Thursday (July 15) and maybe a short presentation after that. Good mixture of local foods (which hopefully I'll be able to get it in time) and a fun group of jokers plus some nice visitors from the land of TVB dramas, Ip Man and the likes, and terribly polluted air. What's a better way to chill after a tough day at work or school?

Alright, advertisement time's over. Got to get back to work..then again, bosses are not in. Anyway, 7pm this Thursday in our great big hall. No need to bring anything (of course, if you insist, bring some nice kuih muih), just bring yourself. So come and be friendly :)

Well tis is a bit outdated but I guess it is worth a post.....

If you guys do not know, actually in our midst we also have a Korean star--look-alike--, who is much better known as our very own... KIMCHI CHUN!!! Yes...it's him...the latest encounter was when right after the Korean performance ..., Kimchi, dengan bergaya-nye, went up the stage and performed his drum SOLO...and guess what...his skills and gorgeous looks attracted millions (ops...exaggerate a bit la...) of girls who actually went up to him, queuing for his signature!!! cool huh...and yes yes yes he's from ELIM!...

A big thank you for the Korean group in blessing so many of us through that wonderful night. Indeed, all glory and honour to God!

What touched me the most on that night is actually to see and experience the passion and fire burning deep in their heart for the Lord Jesus Christ. I do not pray that I will be as talented as them or as handsome as them (just as most of the gals commented of the Korean guys) but all I would ever ask for is the same passion and fire to be in my heart that I will not be ashamed to proclaim His words to the world outside.

After watching this video, I started to question myself, what had I done with my ‘5 loaves and 2 fishes’. Had I been keeping them to myself fearing that they are too small to make a difference or having not enough faith in Him? All I can say is that, a little bit of both.

But the Lord proved me wrong. All that the boy offered were just ‘5 loaves and 2 fishes’ but there were thousands to feed. Never in his mind that those would be significant for that great number. Because of faith, Jesus used that for thousands in hunger. For me that is simply amazing.

There is no gift too small. All He ever asked for is that you to surrender all you have to Him and trust in Him.

So now, are you willing to offer up your ‘5 loaves and 2 fishes’ to Him?

The Master needs what you have to offer,

No matter if you think it’s small;

His work on earth is done through His children,

Latest update on our Bukit Merah trip,I am so sorry that we have to postpone the trip because on the same day we will be having an Easter Outreach in Elim church..Sob Sob. If you guys realise I used the word "postpone" not cancel,hehe, meaning we will still have it but not this Sat. From the visit, what encouraged me the most is actually the initiative shown by our sister Eliza and also the support given by the youths in organising this visit. Well, a lot of you guys might be wondering why she initiated this. During one of our care group, all of us actually committed to do something as part of the ‘Change The World’ thingy and so Eliza took up this challenge.

Many of us attended the concert and I believe many of us already forgotten what the concert is all about. It’s not about the music, it’s not about the people but it’s about the world out there. Are we still sitting back in our comfort zone and pretend the world is doing fine or are we going to do something to make a difference?

Yeah, its our visit to the Salvation Army Orphanage Home(Jalan Kampar) back in July 2008.

I remembered someone promising the kids that they will visit them again. So whoever that is, you better keep your promise. :)

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR

A little belated I know but still as the saying goes 'better late than never..'. Still, as I pick my lazy posterior up from the floor, it is always difficult to get the 'engine' started again after such a long break/holiday. All in all, this CNY holiday was not as taxing as the previous years. I got about one week leave from work, and the week prior to that my sis-in-law (congrats and thanks for the hotel stay) got married in Sibu and I had to make the trip there which effectively jump started my CNY holidays a whole week before the actual date. Now that the dust has finally started, I then remembered about the EY blog...(oops...sorry about that...hey I forgot about my car installment also, so that shows how 'offline' I was).

So business first...this coming Saturday, we have a special programme on CNY. Not too sure what it is all about, all I know is that it will be fun and we'll get to eat...(yeah, I know...fun and food again...well, maybe we can asked them to change it a bit and go for pain and exercise...:)) Details as follows:

A Fool Am I...

Last EY meeting, we had a topic called 'A Fool and His Happiness Are Soon Parted'. Basically it was a discussion on the Book of Proverbs and the definitions of what is a fool and the types of personality/roles that we become from time to time or in different situations. (The Wise, The Simple, The Fool, The Mocker, The Tempter, The Sluggard).

Not going into too much of the details, one of the activities was asking the people present to complete the following phrase.."A Fool is..." Some of the more interesting ones are as follows:

A fool is A fool.
A fool is one fool.
A fool is one who don't know what a fool is.
A fool is someone who jumps into a pool, to play the pool with a stupid tool (or something like that)

We all had a good laugh over the many weird definitions. The study actually defined The Fool as someone who realises his/her foolishness and yet still persists in the said behavior. The example given was drinking and driving. One realizes the foolishness of the action of drinking and driving, and yet still persists in doing it.

That got me thinking. Many a times, we all laughed (I would be the chief culprit here) at the silliness or foolishness of some of the actions of the youths or people that we read on the news or in the internet. We always said to ourselves "Goodness, how dumb/stupid can those people be? I wouldn't be caught doing it.." or something like that. But looking back at my life, I have to wonder what would God be seeing? Am I a fool? I realized that many things I should not be doing, and yet I do. I know the follies of such actions and yet I persists in being the fool. I always thought that if one day when I see God face to face, and out comes a huge plasma TV which would show my entire life...I guess it would pretty much be an episode of Mr. Bean. The foolish things that I have done. Things in secret, things hidden, things that I thought nobody would know or ever find out. Forgetting that God was there all the time. What a fool am I...Still the definition of a fool is that one that persists in carrying out foolish actions. So the question remains, should I remain a fool?

I was a fool, am a fool...will I continue to be a fool? What about you?

"Timeless, gradual, transition..." a phrase first coined by the group of EY Advisers when I first proposed that I stepped down as the 'main' adviser for the EY way back in the early 2009. Now, we have often said that the EY is run by a group of EY advisers, but as is in every group leadership, there will always be one who run or take the lead as it were or take the blame.

For the past 2 years, I have been ...well...blessed to run that role. Blessed? Well, in all honesty, yes, blessed. I was blessed by God to have a team who supports and encouraged me. Truly, it was a wonderful time working with all the advisers. Blessed by a group of youths who well, was a joy to work with, laugh with, play with, struggle with. But as in all good things must come to an end, so do my tenure at the helm. It is not so much as me giving up the work but rather someone else to take the reins while I follow. So now, with the slight rescheduling of personnel, I present to you the respective youth advisers

Many things came together to make the youth camp 09 a success. One of the objectives that the camp committee had set was to have groupings that are smaller in size to facilitate the discussions. This of course demanded much more in terms of manpower. In this camp, we had youth advisors from three different churches coming in to help, to participate, to do their part...and on top of that, they have to pay for the camp fees. It was not a holiday for them.

So here's a post to salute these workers of the Lord. They worked behind the scenes, not wanting reward and glory. Chipping in how and where they can. Thank you...GREAT JOB!!!

It's Christmas time! Many have been thinking that it's a time to have fun, party, shop till you drop, etc. But, it's not all only about that. Many have missed the most important point of Christmas. It is a day where we remember the birth of Christ Jesus. Santa Clause and his "Hohoho!" have always been the center of attraction when it comes to Christmas. Isn't it sad to see people misunderstanding the true meaning of Christmas? In many places, you see banners being hung up wishing people Merry Christmas. But, have you noticed the word "Christmas" is replaced with "Xmas"? You see people replacing the word "Christ" with "X"! Can you believe it!? I don't know it matters to you or not. To me, it's sad that they take Christ out of the picture.

Yesterday, when I went to Elim Chinese for their Christmas celebration. They were having this sketch with 4 radio channels (988, Ai FM, Elim FM and My FM). It was hillarious. But, the message was carried through. The whole sketch can be summarized by the video below. Sit back, relax and watch it. Let God speak to you through this video. It may be something you've known long ago. But, it carries different meaning to each individual every time you listen or watch it.

This Youth Camp 09 was also the first one that had three youth groups combining. Also not forgetting our friends who are not from any youth groups and some who are from Seremban. At the first gathering during the camp, the camp was so quiet, it was kinda funny to see 80+ youths sitting in a hall quietly. Towards the end, we can't get them to keep quiet.

So this series of pictures (a very small number), let's be reminded of the friendship that we have built. Between EY & EAOG & YW@P & Seremban & Friends. Indeed...'Kau Sahabat Ku; Kau Saudara Ku'.

We will be having a Thanksgiving Party for the Camp...on 29 December 2009. Apparently a formal wear occassion. More to follow...do keep tuned....

Sing, Sing, Sing

One of the highlights of the camp was the worship sessions. This time round as we have a combination of three youth groups, each youth group was allocated two worship sessions. For the EY, we had our sisters, Amelia Low & Su En and Rachel Chow & Kimberly. Both teams, first timers. For the EAOG, we had Alixia & Seline and Shu Wei & Seline...again, first timers. For the YW@P, we had Ian & Esther (not exactly first timers but the musicians were first timers) and Glenn Low.

For the first timers, it was indeed a joy to see them taking on such roles and challenge. We could see their nervousness and fear and yet they took on the challenge. It was indeed wonderful. I also saw in EY not too sure about the other youth groups but I am pretty sure that the situation would also be the same where the older ones would come along to support and encourage and teach.

For Glenn Low, well, bro what can I say. I remembered last year youth camp, I literally needed to force you to take on the worship role. How far you have come and matured. Indeed, it was a great joy to see you taking on such role and giving you best skills and talents in bringing worship to God.

As for the rest of the campers....

Everyday, It's You I Live For!!!

Throughout the camp, I have seen the many blessings of God that continually reminds me that His grace and mercy surpasses any understanding. Even in our unbelief, God has kept His promise and shown His faithfulness throughout. Let me count the ways He has blessed us with you (This list is by no means exhaustive...)

Starting from the first day, the two busses ferrying two groups from KL and Ipoh arrived at the jetty at about the same time. This enabled the WHOLE camp to reach the camp site at the same time. Something even when planned for cannot be carried out what more when it is unplanned...
Throughout the camp, we have good weather for all our activities, later I found out that in Ipoh, it was raining throughout...
The first day we have power interruptions, the fuse was blown...two times and affected...the rooms, not the hall where the session was conducted...
We have no injuries to the campers though we were involved in much physical activities
On the first day, the music was louder than the campers, towards the end, the campers were louder...period.
The worship was...superb. Especially on the last worship session (during the altar call)...enough said.
Seeing the younger ones take up the challenge of song leading (many were first timers) and also the older ones maturing in their role (song leading as well as discusion leading)
The assistance given by the MANY youth advisors...In every group we have at least one youth advisors to assist. (Shireen, you seriously owe them ikan bakar)
The bonds that was built from the camp...just check out the Facebook...
AND...the final challenge. I have never seen a final challenge in a youth camp at least where all, nearly all the campers were moved. When Philip took the bold move of asking the people to move back and clear and empty space in front, I was apprehensive. After a long time (at least it seem like a long time to me), I was worried. I prayed that God will revealed His hand and power, to show the camp committee and the campers of what He is able to do. God did. He not only shown them but shown me as well.
None of us lost our voice...seriously...not even one!!!
Amen...(many more....)

Youth Camp 09 Pics....

Ok, the youth camp is finally over. It was a great time, a blast actually. Three days down, and I finally or rather am trying to get back some sort of resembalance to normal life. It was that tiring. More about the greatness and kindness of God. I just want to wet your appetites of the pictures we took during the camp (Ian alone took over 800 pictures)....So onto the pictures (a very, very small number of it...)

(NOTE: Jon is Philip's son and Philip has said during the camp that he will love his daughter in law more than the son, but he hopes/insists/prays that his son will only start a relationship when he is in the late twenties)

We are Good to Go!!!

Months of planning. Numerous times of head butting, hair pulling, chest beating, food eating,...the time has finally come!!! We are now ready to go for the Youth Camp 09!!! As some of camp commies sit (the Form 5s) sit for their final paper, the rest are busy tidying up the last minute stuff and wondering what in the world have they forgotten (which they will find out during the camp). Not really sure whether this will be a great success, but for me, it is already a great success. In what way? Well, let me count the ways...

Three youth groups coming together...(EAOG, EY and YW@P)
Funds working out, even though some are complaining of the fee (which by the way the committee still needed fund raising to cover)
Two separate youth groups planning the camp together
The younger ones (from EY) taking on responsibilities and willing to work and most importantly OWN the work
The older ones (from EY) taking on responsibilities and teaching the younger ones their experience and willing to step back and let the 'glory' go to others
The willingness of yet older ones to take leave and contribute in any way that they can towards the camp
My personal favorite, the wonderful time of working with the camp commie...of sharing thoughts, ideas, jokes and tears.

(Errr...thanksgiving? Hello, the camp hasn't even started yet...Well we believe that we need to give thanks to God for giving us this opportunity to run this camp and we wanted to go forth with praises in our mouths and hearts)

For the Ipoh Gang, please meet in Elim by 10:00am (15 December 2009). We will depart Ipoh for Pangkor at 10:30am. (Don't worry, lunch will be provided...) Please be PUNCTUAL as we WILL leave without you. (Do remember that you have already paid the camp fees...it will just mean more food and bed space for the rest...and also, I will get additional T-Shirts...)

Ok, folks as requested by the camp committee...I am posting this up to remind you all what to bring for the camp. Looking at the list (BTW, I am using the exact words that the camp committee passed to me...) I felt, I needed to explain further, just in case...

Slippers, sport shoes ~ It means just that, bring your shoes. You can go barefoot, high heels, sandals, etc.
Toiletries ~ Again it also means what it says. Whatever you need to do your 'business' in the toilet. Bring it. Dental floss, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, night light, whatever your fancy. The camp committee also don't quite care if you brushes your teeth. So if you want, skip four days of brushing...save water...just don't exhale at my face...
Playing Clothes-Dark Colour Extra ~ Well, it also means bring adequate change of clothes for a 4 days 3 nights camp plus additional clothes whereby you are expected to get wet. So some dark colour clothes would be ideal. Again, you can also bring only a set, its a CHO?CE!!!
Bible ~ If you have, bring.
Stationary ~ Pens, pencils, and whatever stuff you all now stuff into your pencil cases.
Medicine (If you are sick) ~ Well, I am guessing here, it will be the medicine that you have to take or you are already on. Example, some of the committee are already on some meds, if she/he don't take those, she/he will go ...shall we say...no normal...wink wink...
My additional stuff ~ Wanted to add this in, bring your common sense (brain). I know it is after the exams, but bring it along just in case. Never know when you might need it...

Well, its been a while since I have posted anything up on the blog. Guess, its time to get my fingers cracking and brain juices working (what little that is left...). Lately I have been reminded on the issue of faith...

Faith, something which, well depending on who or what you are reading, is an essential part or ingredient of the Christian life. Christian life, began with faith. Faith to believe in Jesus Christ. With faith, our Christian life will grow and mature; thus without faith, well we are pretty much stuck as an infant in terms of our Christian growth and maturity. Something so important in our Christian life, one would assume that we should have loads, well maybe not loads but at the very least bucketful of this faith stuff; seeing how God has blessed and guided us through the years. Yet, yet...the Lord says, 'If we have faith as small as a mustard seed...'

What's that? Faith as small as a mustard seed? Seriously? I won't dare to contradict God in this issue but before we attribute that particular comments to our younger (at least in our Christian maturity) brethren (brethren also refers to the sisters, have to make this sound kinda mature...), let's check the size of our (and since this is my article), my faith...

Examples, examples...is the way to go!!! As is in any mathematical formulas, examples is the way to illustrate the point. So let me use the example of the upcoming youth camp. When BSGC threw this 'bone' to us (EYs) to handle the camp during the last year camp, the first thought in my mind was...no way!!! Not because we don't have the man power, not because we can't find the people to plan and run this, but its rather my own fears. Seeing how every year, the BSGC had to 'work' to get people to join the camp, I don't think we are able to do it. I don't think God will blessed us with the numbers. I believe God can, I have the faith that if God choose to, we can draw in crowds bigger than the total enrolment of NS. It is just that I don't think God will. (Evaluation: Faith size...hmmm....undefined...yet)

At the begining of this year, we were fresh from organising a Prom Night with the EAOG youths and the committee were doing their 'post mortem' review. They were also thinking of what to run next... and I thought, well why don't we run the youth camp together. Thinking back, I guess the idea was to get as many people on board as possible so that we can share the burden and not worry about the numbers and stuff. I did not really think that they will be game to run a youth camp together...but they did. I dragged my feet in finding camp sites and speaker, they pushed, chased and bugged me all the way...I gave excuses like the SPM time table problems, price of the camp sites, logistics, etc. Even at the end when the SPM time table was changed, I was even tempted to postponed or even call off the youth camp. I still have my doubts over this camp issue and whether God will bless. I see mountains...(Evaluation: Faith size...hmmm clearer...still not sure about the size...for sure not much bigger than a mustard seed)

Well, we have committed to the camp. We booked 110 places and I was quite worried over the numbers that we are going to get. The intial numbers were rising slowly...very slowly...The mountains that I saw were getting bigger, making me realised how small I am. The problems associated with camp seem huge in comparison to my God. The final count for the camp was about 80 people. Did not meet the 110 and yet not a small number either. Throughout the planning I noticed the following:

Was worried over the finances, Camp fees of 180 foe 4 days 3 nights inclusive of transport and a t-shirt was way above budget. We actually needed to top up the money. Funds came in from..well, unexpected places that enable us to not quite cover the camp, but not as bad as I feared.
The youths working together in doing the camp logistics, the practices, the committee meetings, and not only the 'old' hands in the youth but the 'new' ones were chipping in. Doing their part. Best of the pick in this is the realisation that the youths had that they also needed to pray. (Lesson learned here...thank you...)
The people that signed up consist more of outsiders than our own people. We have a good mix of the older youths to help out in the groups. A concern in the begining...

One by one, my concerns was meet and addressed by God. Not only addressed but given more than I asked. So, if I was to evaluate the size of my faith. I can safely say, my faith is bigger than a mustard seed. I have bucketfuls of this faith stuff, it is just that my God cannot move the mountains. I believe in God, have much faith in Him, but I don't quite believe the He can do much. It was not the size of my faith that is the problem but rather the size of my God that iIput my faith in. I needed to see God for the God that He is. The Alpha and Omega, the Almighty God!!! For that I need to make a choice, a decision to take God out of the small tiny box that I have placed Him in and put Him where he belongs. The God that made the heavens and the earth...

Let's go for the camp!!!

Youth Camp 09 Registration...

Well, that 15 December 2009 is coming soon. When we started to plan for this camp (here, I would really like to thank...Michael Fun and Kevin Ho from BSGC and William Chang from Elim for giving us this wonderful experience of planning for the camp...thanks A LOT...guys...), December 15, felt so far away. Even the closing date for the camp registration also felt some distance away. Of course coupled that with the number of camper that we targeted for...110...we or at the very least I did not or rather dare to think what would the numbers be like come November 15...

Well, guess what? That November 15 date has come and past...and so now, I need to officially say that the Youth Camp 09 registration is....

So, now on to the final stretch...the logistics of the camp. We will be looking forward to another month of hectic planning and pre camp preparation...again thanks a lot to the above mentioned guys...So do pray with us and especially for us and the speaker, Mr Philip Devadas (hmm, hope he remembers he has a camp with us...)...See you all this coming December 15....

Oh yes, let me also give you the breakdown of the people who are attending the camp...

From EY...36, BSGC...40 and EAOG..17 giving us a total of 93...a good number...a very good number...

M.A.D - Making A Difference

it is a norm to me now, that each time before i leave for kl, granny, without fail, will ask me to "dont buy so much clothes because trends change before you can bat an eyelid". it really got me thinking, what makes her think im a trend-chaser? i dont do body cons and jumpsuit and military jackets and cut-out lame leggings. im not a trend follower. i love my jeans and tshirt too much to convert to something else.

over the years, as we grow up, us kids have acquired a special skill of "masuk telinga kanan, keluar telinga kiri". more so if what our parents or granny has to say is not what we want to hear. and all these while i thought my granny is being spendthrift and wants me to save more instead of spending them on clothes.

until one fine day, i opened my cupboard, and a stack of clothes tumble right in front of me. i went "WHOA!" and then i went "SHUCKS now i have to clean up this mess" and then i went "EH? when did i buy this? never see before one?".

so there you go, a transition of emotions that took place that one fine day... which leads me to think of what granny said to me -- "dont buy so much clothes because trends change before you can bat an eyelid".

why do i buy so much clothes? why do WE invest so much in clothes, brand new shoes, spanking new pants, crisp white shirt?

my best friend once told me that we, human, are all subject to what other people think of us, whether we like it or not. we want to be part of the majority, do what everyone else does, wear what normal people would. we dont want to be the sore thumb sticking out. we dont want to be labelled weirdo.

last sunday, while i was listening to the message Making A Difference, uncle william mentioned Hudson Taylor, a missionary who went into china. i couldnt help but wonder, what will the people his time say? a white man going into a jungle to preach to a bunch of mandarin speaking people. will people that time label him as crazy? as he-has-got-nothing-better-to-do?

i have no answer to all that questions above, but one thing i know... because one man is willing to step out and make a difference, china is now a country with many many Christians. (for statistics, please ask uncle william :P )

last week's message spoke a lot to me.especially the story about a 15 year old helping to free slaves. he's 15 and is already doing so much for the Lord, i ask myself... what have i been doing for God?

okay i know im getting long-winded. this long post compensates the many many months that i have not blogged. hehe. im gonna end with a video.

Okay, as the deadline approaches for the youth camp 09 registration (its 15th November 2009, by the way, just in case you all are wondering about the date). I was surprised by the response to the camp registration. So far there are only 19 places left. Wow, here I am, in my lack of faith, worried about the ability to fill the numbers. So people....please do sign up as soon as possible as if in the event that we have reached the maximum number, we will without any choice, turn down any more camp applications. So, hurry up and go sign up for the camp.

PS: Just for your infomation, about 60% of the campers are outsiders. We are now have youth groups from Elim, Emmanuel AOG, BSGC and Cornerstone among the campers; in addition to them, we also have friends who are not from the youth groups...a very good mix of people...

Okay, the first round of the youth camp T-shirt was rejected/opposed/shot down/voted off by many. (Haiz...people give some credit to the designer. Always 'taruhing'...and the voting thing... hmmm...could also be rigged/manipulated by those who know how...I wonder whether ....) Well, the designers again came up with several designs for you all to choose.

Some instructions, well don't worry about the colour for the moment. Pick the design, we will edit the colour later. Another thing, we have several designs for the front and back, so you all can mix and match the front and back which the poll has also made adjustment for...

EY Meeting

This coming Saturday church's thanksgiving has been postponed to 14 November 2009. As such we will be having our regular youth meeting this coming Saturday. Come to think of it, it has been a long time since we had our regular youth meeting which would kind of mean that our regular youth meeting is not that regular.

With our partnership with the churches in Ipoh and the combined programs that we run, it is indeed difficult to find time to run our regular youth program. So much so that some of the youths don't even know when will there be a youth meeting. This bears some consideration. And as we approach the end of the year, we again need to reevaluate whether this lack of 'regular meeting ' is beneficial or harmful to the EY in general. So what are your thoughts?

Camp Updates...

Yes, folks...after much 'dilly dallying' and dragging our feet...(well at the very least my feet...) the youth camp 09 is on!!!. This year, we will be running/hosting/organising the camp to give our fellow brothers and sisters in BSGC a rest. (Note to BSGC...well the bible actually did mention a year of rest for 6 years of labour...so we will/shall/may organize the next youth camp in 7 years time ~ 2016)

So now, do check up this blog from time to time for the updates on the camp. (Was contemplating starting a blog or fb site for the camps...then I realized that I haven't even been diligent in updating this blog, what more another one...unless there is a volunteer...)

First thing first...check the previous posting on the camp location and date. The camp program will be out in a week or two. The camp fees...

Run Nation

This coming Saturday, 10 October 2009, EY with partnership with 8 other churches in Ipoh and churches all over Malaysia, will participate in the Run For the Nation event. The event is for the churches to jog/run for 40km and also pray for the areas covered by the 40km.

The run will start at around 5am and all the 8 churches in Ipoh will finished their run at around 12pm in Elim Gospel Hall. All the runners are expected to gather in Elim 30 minutes before the respective group's scheduled time to start running (Indivual teams will receive further instruction) for briefing. All teams member will be ferried to the starting point and the runners who have completed the route will also be ferried back to Elim for the final program. We also have people on motorcycles and cars to follow the runners along the route.

Oceans Will Part

I personally am going through something that's very sad and indeed very heavy. A burden that everyone is carrying or definitely carried before. It's not an easy duty to follow the 5th commandment as it is written in Exodus 20. Everything you do is in vain except you follow all the commandments in the book.

Things has not been easy for me especially during this raya break. Where problems are becoming more and more prominent, problems which i never even thought it would exist. I confess that my heart is growing cold especially during these few days, and it simply breaks my heart. Even as it is written seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all the others shall be added unto you. I felt even discouraged when the more i tried to seek the Lord, the more problems arise as i began to neglect things that are important around me.

What Uncle William shared the other day just came into my mind.

'Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.'

Matthew 11:28-30

I guess this is where obedience comes in. It's not about how long you worship, or how many tears you've shed during worship, it's not about how convicting your prayers are or how many bible verses you can quote correctly. It's simple and straight forward.
BE OBEDIENT AND FOLLOW.

As i was just chilling with my hostel mates and listening to my mp3. I believe The Lord reminded me of his power, and indeed I'm not in the position to question His sovereignty. God says, ' Wait, Watch, and Behold as i part the sea.'

Trust in the Lord that He WILL bring you through. It might not be in a pleasant way and it might be in a way that you'd never even expect it to be. Just be quiet, be still, and watch.

It's been a long time since there has been any write up on the caregroups. So let's keep updated shall we?

The caregroup has been on going, biweekly. We normally meet at the homes and so far we went to Wan Li's, Wan Li's mother's, Kian Aun's mother's, Yew Weng's, Kar Wai's, Shireen's, William's and lately we have been using the new EY's crib and adjourning to the Cafe for makan and fellowship. I find it kinda nice, as the room offers a big room and it is quite pleasantly decorated/furnished (I know self praise is no praise, but hey...I like the place...its comfy)

Last Friday, we had some fun during the Caregroups...What did we do? Well, join us and find out...as for the 'promo' of what we did...check out the pictures...

Last Saturday, we had our EY program for the month. It was a gathering for the Ipoh BUG people, a sort of gathering and prize giving for the games that have been played (footbal during 27 and 28 of Aug 2009 & Frisbee over a period of two Sundays). The meeting began around 5pm, the people were separate into four groups, and we played some games. Had the prize giving and of course, what meeting conducted by us will be complete without a meal...so we had makan as well.... All in all...good fun...

Guys and Gals from BUG...we had a nice time meeting up with you all, hoped to see you all soon...till then, keep the ball rolling and frisbee flying...(I know, I know...lousy motto??? But let me make it up with photos and a very nice video...)

Round 2...Ding! Ding! Fiiiigghhhhhtttt....errrr.....Ultimate!!!. That's right, last sunday, we had the round two match up between Cornerstone and EY for the deciding game. Since it is between two youth fellowship only and only one game remained to be played, we played two 30 minutes halves.

Last Sunday, 16 August 2009...the Ipoh BUG organized an ultimate frisbee competition match between EY and the Cornerstone Youths. It was to be a series of games, 3 games in total. Each game consists of 15 minutes halves with a 5 minutes break in between. Each team consist of 7 members, 5 males and 2 females....

We actually started the game around 530pm and due to the time constraints, we only managed to finish 2 games out of three...The results? Well...

First game, EY won 7 - 4

Second Game, Cornerstone won 10 - 5

All in all, both the teams played their hearts out. Spectacular touch downs, awesome defensive blocks, acrobatic leaps were the norm of the day. As it is with all competitive games, there were some tension between the players when things did not go their way. But in the end, the better team won. But this is not the end. The stage has been set. One win each, the next could decide the Champions...Are you ready?...

EY Meeting 8 Aug 2009

Lately for our EY meeting the numbers have been dwindling. From a high of 30 plus, we now numbered about 10 plus. I thought that with the new facilities, the EY will now be heading to new heights. What a reminder to me that the facilities do not make the fellowship. Not only that we have not grown, we have shrunk in size. If this were to continue, it won't be long before we have to 'tutup kedai' as it were.

Then, I am reminded of the song by Matt Redman, Blessed be the Name of the Lord. One of the verses stated that the Lord blesses and the Lord takes away. But through it all, the song writer still praises the Name of our Lord. Now, I am not saying that the conditions of EY is now in God's hands (which it is) and we just sit back and wait for the Lord to bless again. But I am now reminded that maybe this drop in numbers is to remind us not to take things for granted. Our passion and ethusiasm for the work and to continue to strive to follow after our Lord should not waver and fall. The fact that the numbers in EY grew to 30 plus does not mean that the numbers will remain. So we should all check ourselves to see if we have strayed, especially those of us in the 'advisors' role, with me being the chief culprit.

Now, though the numbers were few, we still continue to have our meetings. The recently concluded one was led by Ricky Tan (the next chairperson???...hahaha...chill la bro...you were the chairperson last saturday. No hidden meanings...wink wink) We learnt about community and what it means to be in a family and uphold one another. Enuff' said, pictures will paint a thousand words....and of course show proof...

Some of us did not sing with gusto, and a few reminders by Wan Li (like asking us to stand up and then stand on the chairs) promptly opened up our vocal chords. But alas, like some who continue to rebel, there is one who continued to be stubborn. And as all sat, one remained standing.

We then had a short icebreaker of tying the leg together using one hand. Winner was Kevin Koon

To illustrate the point of needing to work together, the solo work became a team work but unfortunately the illustration falls apart for Kevin Koon, who promptly became last when asked to work as a team. maybe the partner was a factor???

It was then followed by the study.

"Err...and now...what?"

I joined EY when internet was still in its infancy. The most advanced personal computer was think Intel 286 with hard disk size of about 2Mbs. Yeah, I know...I am getting ...more 'advanced'. Back then, the EY meeting was conducted in the old library building and we sang from the EY songbooks. We seldom but we can and it was a hassle to use the Overhead Projector. We also only had a guitar then. I then left for my higher education in Canada...

Coming back, the EY has progressed. The meeting place was in the worship hall, in the creche room and we have air-cond. We still sing from books and using guitar only. I joined a few of the meetings but feeling left out or out of touch, I skipped EY and pretty much everything else also...that is another story.

Fast forwarding to a few more years, and I rejoined EY. By then, we have our own room in the Sunday School Building. The room was quite big and we have air-cond. We now improved the singing session with addition frills like lap top, projection and some more gung ho worship leader will carry the drums and keyboard and guitars, just to have a 5 to 10 minutes of full band worship.

And then to the current day. We now have a multipurpose hall, which we can play badminton, ping-pong or 'kong kuan'. Upstairs we have our very own new and improved EY room. It is bigger, and now it has got carpet, a permanent drum set, keyboard, the guitars, amps, and speakers.

The EY room and equipments have been improved, and we are very much blessed by God. Now here is the million dollar question...we are blessed for what? Why do we have such a nice room, equipment and stuffs? What is it for? Our comfort and fun? Could be...but I like to think it is more than that. God blessed us so that we can bless others. So now...what? That is the question that we all need to answer. Let's search ourselves and see, what we can do with this blessing that God has given us...

It's been a long while since we had our birthday posts. This is what you get when you put some one like me in charge of the blog postings. People, I don't even celebrate my wife's birthday (do she knows I love her....) should be a clue to you fellows that putting me in charge of birthday postings is a no no.

Dear God,

I guess You must be tired of hearing this by now but I still would have to say it...I am wrong. Forgive me for having so little faith. I should have had learn my lesson by now. You have shown me, again and again, of what you can do and achieve if only I believe. From the construction of this wonderful hall and facilities in Elim, to the recently concluded Parent's Night. From the International Youth Rally early this year to the Mission Trip in March. From the carolling last year to the different EY programs, one really could say that I have been hit time and time again right smack in the face of what You can do and yet, and yet...

I was arranging the chairs on Thursday night and Lord, You knew in my heart, I did not quite believe we can fill the hall. I thought to myself, 'Well, this could be a tad embrassing if we cannot even fill half the hall' So we arranged 459 chairs. 459 and I thought if only we can fill the hall, that would be great. Awesome even.

By 7.00pm, only a handful came. I was not worried because it was still early. Again, I am ashamed to admit that I was not worried because I expected the numbers to be low. By 7.30pm, the crowds start to arrive. I was mildly surprised and was getting quite excited thinking to myself, well at least we can fill the 459 chairs. That would be awesome. But Lord, You had other plans.

Lord, You filled the hall. Not only did you fill the hall, You packed it until there was no more place left. From 459, I estimated we have about 600+ people in the hall that night. Some had to stand at the stairs, some stood at the doors, some sat on the floor below the stage and some went upstairs. If 459 seats was filled and that would be awesome, Lord, You went beyond awesome. A few years ago, I remember saying how nice if one day I can see Elim having a hall that will be packed by people. It was only a wishful thinking but Lord, You showed that with You, nothing is impossible.

I was thinking that with the hall packed, that was the miracle of the night. Not that it was a trivial thing, but Lord, You had other plans as well. When the altar call came, 20+ people responded. Following that 30+ people stood up asking for prayers. Lord, You are indeed awesome, more than awesome. I know, this will not end. You have indeed greater things planned and I only needed to be obedient. If only I was more obedient....

Another time will come when I will again doubt. When I will again fail You but Lord, I know now that it was never about me. It was never about what I can do for You. It is and will always be about how obedient I will be. I just need to follow after You and You will do the rest. Thank you Lord, for a wonderful night. A night that is beyond awesome.

All Systems Go...?

Alright people, the hall has been completed. Sounds systems installed. Lighting systems tested, the Korean team has been performing two previous nights at CGBC and Ipoh Wesley. It was also announced at the end of their performance that tomorrow night in Elim will be the meeting for the youths. So looks like all systems are prep to go. The bigger question is are we good to go?

We have arranged the chairs in the hall. We counted to have 459 chairs in the hall with several stacks available in the event all the seats are taken. To date, we have confirmed attendance from Lutheran New Life, Ipoh Wesley, AOG, Batu Gajah and of course EY. So as the saying go...'the ball is in our court'...can we...dare we dream ....are we ready?

We Can't Fill The Hall...

I never thought that the day will come when Elim Gospel Hall will be blessed with three new buildings. I still remember in the initial planning when I was part of the building committee that was tasked to draw up the preliminary plans for the overall development. We went on to plan for two new buildings and the mission house plans was drawn up much later. Back then, I never once thought that we will complete the construction of all the three buildings.

We did. By the grace of God we did. I never thought that with a congregation of 100+, we will have the resources to build all three structures. We didn't but God did. And now we have on this piece of land, four buildings; a worship hall, a mission house with a visiting guest room, a sunday school block for seminars and conferences and a multipurpose hall that can seat 500+ comfortably.

Last Saturday, we had our first event in that new multipurpose hall. A parent's night specifically for our 'pre-believers' relatives and families. We had 16 tables and close to 60% of them are our 'pre-believers' friends. We could have packed the hall, but we dare not. Again, we did not believe that we can. We started small; planned for 10 tables, ended up with 16 and even then we had to turn some away. We dare not dream and hoped but God proved us wrong again. He gave us this hall, and He will use it for His glory and His work.

With our number of members in Elim, we can't fill the hall. In fact, for our breakfast fellowship, we can hear echoes in the new hall. I have often wondered, why us Lord? Why bless us with such a fine huge hall? We can't fill it. Then I realized. We can't but God can and God will. So do we dare to dream, do we dare to join God in filling up this hall.

This coming Friday we have a group of Korean Musicians coming coming over to conduct a concert with us. I can tell you of the timing, of how the building got completed and of how the sound systems got installed by this week that we can have this concert. Of how the Koreans would only be around this week and not earlier for by then we could not use the hall. But I will just say that God provides and God blesses. Now, its up to us. Do we dare to dream? We claim this to be a youth rally...will it be? Will the hall be filled? Have we done our part in inviting our friends. Dare we join God in this work?

Lord, I stand in the midst of a multitudes...

Last night worship, the youths of the Lutheran New Life Church joined us for a time of worship. In addition, a fellow brother from the AOG youth group was also around. At the same time, the participants in the soccer coach training course was also having their certificates presentation on the same night, thus there are several brothers from Seremban and Melaka joining us as well.

The numbers weren't big, but I was strangely moved by the sight of all those people within the same hall worshipping God. I know, we are not exactly people of every tribe and tongue, but I was very much encouraged by the fact that we for those few moments ignored what church, denomination or 'clan' that we are from or belong to. We stood as one, worshipped God as one, declaring together that our God, yes OUR GOD reigns. Amen.

We, on that night celebrated our similarities and ignored our differences. We rejoice over the fact that we can call each other brothers and sisters. As we continued to partner other churches and youth groups in our ministry, we hope to see more of this, this celebration of God's love as one. Truly as what the Lord has commended us to be, as one in the God.

Visitation to Lutheran Youth Group

Continuing on my 'catching up' of pictures to upload....the next in the series in also the continuation of last year's EY program of visiting other churches youth groups for exposure and building rapport with the respective youth groups...

On 9th May 2009, we joined the Lutheran Church Youth Fellowship. Our Uncle William shared during their meeting on Mother's day, so we took the oppurtunity to join him and the Lutheran Church's youth for their meeting.

It was a fun filled time and we enjoyed ourselves, well let's hope the Lutheran Church youths had fun too. Well, enough said onto the pictures and a surprise treat...

The special treat...a long time ago in EY, there was a group of youths led by Uncle Richard which had a nickname. They were known as the chicken group. Why? Well, this happen when I was overseas, so I know not how it began or why. I just know it was there. Time passes and the chicken grew...I thought the group had passed on until recently we saw a 'resurrection' of the said group.

As promised, the first in the series of the things that the EY has 'done' this few weeks. First up, the farewell BBQ. Every year without fail, haiz..., to our loss and "someone's" gain, some of our youths will leave our EY family to further their studies. So this year, we bid farewell to quite a big number of them and we planned to sent them off with a full stomach. (Yeah, we had a makan time!!!)

People, first things first, am sorry for not updating the blog. Have tons of pictures from the Extreme Prayer, the visit to the Lutheran Church Youth Group and the Caregroup BBQ. Will upload that as soon as possible, by this week...I'll try...I know, do or do not, there is no try. Before we can get to that post need to remind you all of the following

This Friday, we are suppose to have our Caregroup but Uncle Jimmy called for a helpers meeting for the Children's Holiday Club. For those of you all who have signed up as volunteers, you need to be in that meeting. For the rest, we will do 'something'.

So a show of hands or a shout out in the box for those who are free for this Friday meaning not going for the meeting (if you have signed up, you NEED to attend that meeting), do the shout out, and we will get in touch with you what that 'something' is. Well, I can let you know this much, it will be fun...

Ok people, sorry for this long delayed info...The venue for tomorrow night's 'celebration' is at Wan Li's house at 7.00pm.

What will we have? Well, meat, meat and more meat. And yes, we will also have meat!!! (What did you expect when you get me to buy stuff? Not only do we get meat, but fat and oil intensive meat...)

What will we do? Well eat for one. Another will be to improve myself. Huh? Well, you see during the farewell for Andrew, somebody told me that we could have done better. So, acknowledging my weakness, I vowed to do better this time round. So we will have a 'short' "celebration" for our going to depart friends...

Program Changes...

Again, due to some recent developments, we have another program change...

First Up...

This coming saturday, 9 May 2009, we will not be having our regular EY meeting but we will going across town to join the Lutheran Church Youth Meeting. It is in Ipoh Garden and the meeting starts at 7.30pm, so we need to be in church by 7.00pm. So people, if you want to go, meet in Elim by 7.00pm. Any later, you will then need to make your own way there...

Secondly....

This coming Friday, 8 May 2009, we will have a special meeting to 'celebrate' the going away of many of our youths for their further studies. It will be a dinner thing followed by...some...er...er...stuff for the youths who are going away. Do check back the blog for further updates as to the location. What I can tell you now is the time...we will meet...at 7.00pm at the location to be mentioned...

Xtreme Prayer Event Update

Well, let me update you all on the Xtreme Prayer. Our brother Liew, was, is and will still be more stressed as the day approaches April 30. (so do remember him in your prayers). So let me do the updating...

Background, always like background info. Gives us perspective. Initially planned as a slumber, but as fate (God) would have it, a group of us went to Indonesia and joined an event called Xtreme Prayer. They have this every month whereby a group of uni students and youth leaders come together to pray for the nation, their church and youth fellowships. They start around 10pm and goes on until 5am. So adopting the Malaysian Spirit of Malaysia Boleh (or piracy...), we decided to adopt and to try out a similar thing in Ipoh. And voila! Our slumber turned into an Xtreme Prayer!!!

Initially, we are hosting this with the AOG youths. Somehow the numbers don't seem right for the musicians part (translation...we lack musicians) We thought of...Ipoh Wesley!!! And so this Xtreme Prayer became a collaboration event between AOG, Ipoh Wesley and EY.

We then started to think bigger...we invited Gerald Ho from GFS Banting to conduct a Worship Leading workshop and Michael Fun from BSGC Petaling Jaya to conduct the drama workshop. The other two workshops are conducted by in house people. Slowly but surely the Xtreme Prayer took on its own direction and growth. The worship session now is being conducted by Ipoh Wesley and EY with the attendance to date is 56 youths and counting.

So and now we wait. We wait upon our Lord, for we are coming together to pray. We believe that greater things are still to come, greater things are still to be done in the town of Ipoh. And it will begin with the people of God going on their knees to pray...

Come, let's us pray.....

Calling for volunteers!!!

We're currently recruiting helpers for our Children's Holiday Club (CHC). Just in case you don't know, we're having our CHC on the 1st of June to the 5th of June which is the first week of the school holidays. We have a lot to prepare and we need volunteers to help out. Even if you're not free from 1st June to 5th June, you're still welcomed to lend your hand. Currently, we're brainstorming for the crafts and the decorations. Do come to church on any days and help. There's always something that you can do. For those who can be helpers during the period (be it full time or part time), please kindly inform Uncle Jimmy or Aunty Celine. Thank you

As You Open My Eyes to The Works of Your Hand...(Part 2)

Initially I wanted to post a series on the mission trip but seeing how the individual members had already posted much and written much on this in their respective blogs, a slight change of plans then.

Allow me then to share what I experienced over there in Indonesia specifically concerning their youth ministries. I had the chance to sit down and chat with one of their youth leader. He is now in his early twenties and was involved in the youth ministries for about 6 years. BTW, the thing that totally knock me off my seat was that their youth meeting was conducted in...get this...a shopping mall.

Now, I know you all won't believe me, well here then is the proof....(Abbalove Ministries is the Youth Meeting)

Now, six years ago they had about 15 youths, today at the youth meeting that we attended, they numbered about 450 people, give a take 1 or 2. 450!!! I was like ...woaw...The meeting that we attended was conducted solely by the youths. From the ushers who welcomed us enthusiaticly to the preacher who was by the way a 16 year old girl. The whole time that I was there, I was saying to myself if only EY was like this, if only...Now don't get me wrong. First of all, I am not saying that EY is not good or it is not functioning. To me, I always thanked the Lord for what EY has become, indeed the Lord has blessed EY much. It is just that when we see God doing something great, we will want the same blessing on EY as well. Only if...

Only if...if what??? The God that we worship here is the same God that they worship in Indonesia. If God can move mountains there, so could He here. SO the difference between them and us is....well us. You and me...do we dare to dream? Do we dare to pray and ask God to show us, to bless us here as well? Praying is easy, but prayer comes with responsibility and change. We cannot asked God to bless us this way if we do not invite our friends for the meeting. We cannot have the authority to invite if we do not live the lives that we proclaim...So the question is do we dare?

I came back from Indonesia praying this prayer...I prayed that I can see this in Malaysia, in Ipoh, in EY. Indeed as the song goes, "As you open my eyes to the works of Your Hand..." As God has shown us what is possible with Him, dare we reach out and ask, pray and seek Him for this?

The second part to the song goes like this..."Oceans will part, Nations come at the whisper of your call. Hope will rise, Glory shown as Your will be done in My life" Miracles can happen, and will happen if His will is done in our lives...So come, let us pray, ask and seek that His will be done in our lives that we may see 'oceans parting and nations coming to Him'...

Dare we pray?
